Why two transplant quotations can differ by half and both be honest
Price is a poor proxy for quality in either direction. What usually differs between two quotations is where each draws the line, not what happens inside it.

Families comparing transplant centres abroad often find quotations that differ by a factor most would assume reflects quality. Usually it does not. It reflects scope: how many days the package covers, whether the donor pathway is inside it, and what happens when a stay runs long. Comparing the totals compares nothing.
A package is a boundary, and boundaries move
Most centres treating international patients quote a single figure covering the surgery, the team, a stated number of days including an expected period in intensive care, and the investigations done during that admission.
Every one of those terms is a decision. Ten days or twenty. Intensive care included or charged separately. The pre-operative workup inside the figure or billed before it. Two centres making different decisions produce very different numbers for identical care.
The part that is genuinely unpredictable
Transplantation is a field where the unpredictable part is not small. A rejection episode, an infection while immunosuppressed, or a return to theatre all extend a stay — and the terms on which that extension is charged matter more than the headline figure.
A quotation that specifies a daily rate beyond the covered period is being honest about something a lower quotation may simply be leaving unsaid.
What to line up when comparing
A comparison is only meaningful if the columns hold the same things.
- Days covered, and whether intensive care is among them
- Whether the donor evaluation and surgery are inside the figure
- The rate for days beyond the package
- Which currency the price is fixed in, and who carries the exchange risk
- What follow-up is included, and for how long after discharge
- What is explicitly excluded — the most informative part of any quotation
